can nsfas fund you twice

Do you want to know if can NSFAS fund you twice? Well, this is one of the frequently asked questions asked by students who want NSFAS funding.

In this article, we’re answering the question of whether NSFAS can fund you twice or not and also How To Apply For NSFAS Online

So, let’s jump straight to the question and provide the right answer to it.

Can NSFAS Fund You Twice?

NSFAS funds students for one qualification at one public university or TVET college at a time.  This means, you only get funded by NSFAS once for your entire study of your qualification years until you complete.

This means you don’t need double funding from NSFAS for your qualification. Your application will be approved once and NSFAS will continue to fund you until you complete your years of study for your qualification.

Therefore, there’s no need to worry about getting funding twice once your application is approved and you keep meeting the academic performance of passing at least 50% of your modules.

Can NSFAS Fund You If You Drop Out?

NSFAS will stop funding you if you drop out of school. Your approval for funding will be canceled once you’re no more continuing your studies.

However, if your resume and decide to continue your module, you’ll need to reapply for NSFAS for another funding approval.

Can NSFAS Blacklist You?

Yes, NSFAS can remove you from the scheme once you fail to meet the academic performance requirement of passing at least 50% of your modules.

You’ll have to write an NSFAS Motivational Appeal Letter for review and reconsideration of your funding.

Again, NSFAS can remove you from the scheme if you take a gap year. You’ll need to Reapply For NSFAS  in order to get funding for your studies in case you return to continue.

REMEMBER: www.nsfas.org.za is the official webpage for the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS)

How Many Times Can NSFAS Fund You?

NSFAS fund a student for one qualification at one institution at one given time period. Students will be funded for the years he or she is studying for their qualification, usually 4 years for most university courses.

However, a student must always pass at least 50% of his or her modules for every semester year to keep receiving funding allowances from the NSFAS.

We recommend you read Will NSFAS Fund Me If I Fail My Modules? for extra knowledge about how NSFAS funding works.

Again, there’s this question that students frequently ask, Can I Apply For NSFAS Twice? You should look into the answer for in-depth knowledge on the subject to know how many times you can apply for funding.

We do hope this article on Can NSFAS Fund You Twice was helpful.

NSFAS is obliged to fund only your first qualification. So, if you were funded for your diploma, it’s likely you’ll not be funded for your second qualification (degree).

Will nsfas continue to fund me if I dropped out of university during the second semester, if I change my course and institution?

Reply

Firstly, changing university or course does not disqualify you from NSFAS funding as long as the university and or course is NSFAS-funded.

Secondly, you’ll lose your funding when you take a gap year. If you return to school and need the NSFAS funding, you’ll have to apply for approval again.

Hey. I’m doing my first year at Walter Sisulu University. I’ve passed all my modules for the first semester. However, I am not happy with the course that I am doing and the institution I am in. I no longer want to carry on with the second semester. I want to deregister and study at another institution next year.

Do I need to reapply for NSFAS for the year 2023, and what documents will be required, taking into consideration the fact that I have already studied at WSU.

No, you do not have to reregister because you want to change your institution and course. Just make sure after changing to another institution and course, you submit your academic records to NSFAS for them to update your details in their system so that they pay your allowances through your new institution.

You should read How To Notify NSFAS When You Change Institution? for the guide.

Again, make sure the institution and the course you are switching to are NSFAS-funded and contact the bursary/finance office to quicken the process

Reply
Universityonlineapplication May 11, 2022 - 10:11 pm

Yes NSFAS will fund you but you should remember that you’re affected by the N+rule, then you should be able to complete within the NSFAS funding. Other than that, you’ll have to finance your fees when you exceed the NSFAS N+Rule

Hi I’m a N4 college student and because of unfortunate circumstances I have to drop out and go to university next year will NSFAS fund me again?

Reply

If you drop out of school, your NSFAS is canceled. If you decided to go back to continue your education, you’ll have to apply for NSFAS when applications are open for that academic year. So, if your application is approved, then you’ll get NSFAS funding.

Changing your course does not make you lose your NSFAS funding. However, NSFAS will include your previous funding years in counting your eligible years for NSFAS. So, you should understand that you may not get funded for the full years of your new course if you are affected by the N+2 Rule.

You should read What Is NSFAS N+ Rule? for the full explanation.

How do I notify nsfas should I move from a university to a college

Reply

NSFAS will continue to fund you if you move to another college or TVET. To notify NSFAs, go to your institution’s financial office or nearest NSFAS office to let them know. Both institutions will work together to confirm your change of college and update your information (college) to NSFAS.
