You can only appeal to NSFAS for funding when you lose your funding for the reason that you could not meet the academic eligibility requirement of passing at least 50% of your modules.
Since I was trying to log in to my nsfas account but I couldn’t due to high volume of people trying to log in.i wanted to check for my funding status if it has approved or rejected so that I can appeal in time.but there was no luck in logging in.i tried and tried it only logged in today as I was trying on each and everyday, and when I got there the was no appealing button and the year 2022 is not appearing.thank you in advance.i do not know what to do now
My son applied for nsfas last year and his status is still at “Awaiting valid registration data from institution” . Data was send through by institution and status is still the same. Kindly advice what to do now, as he needs books for his course and accommodation…
He should try to make inquiries from the Financial Aid Office in his institution or try to contact the NSFAS office for assistance. You can look up the various NSFAS offices from here NSFAS Offices And Application Centers – Full List
My child applied for nsfas last year and they said it was unsuccessfully reason being household income greater than 350000 rands whereas I earn less than that. I am the only one working at home my husband doesn’t work all the expenses are looked by me what should I do
Write an appeal letter and support it with your payslip (payslip must not be more than that of a 3 months payslip)to prove your claim.
Hi, I registered for a 3 year course and I haven’t fail any module. Now I’m registered for my final year but nsfas has rejected me because of N+1 rule. I haven’t fail on my first and second year. What seems to be the problem?
This might be a mistake from NSFAS. So, you should appeal and upload supporting documents that will back your claim that you still qualify and have not failed your modules.
I am first applicant on my first year am affected by n+2 is it possible ?what are the document needed when i write appeal letter affected by n+2 rule exceeded?
This is not possible. It could be a mistake made by NSFAS. However, you should appeal and support your letter with your registration or admission evidence to back your claim.
Good day, appeal button appears but it doesn’t give me option to upload supporting doc. What do I do, please assist.
And if the reason to appeal is “gave birth during academic term” what would be an appropriate document to submit? Thanks.
The appeal button not being clickable is an issue on the website. You can do anything about it from your end.
What would then be a appropriate supporting document for n+ reason “gave birth during academic term”?
My NSFAS application was unsuccesful due to “Exceeding the n+ rule” ever since I was admitted by the institution I’m at, I have been passing with distinctions, I’m doing a 3 year Diploma and this year is my final year. Started in 2020, I’m quite aware that I should appeal but I’m not so sure as to what documents should I submit for the appeal. Please assist….
N.B In 2012 I was funded by nsfas at a different institution and in 2013 I was declined to receive funding in this regard I dropped out of school since I failed to meet the academic requirements. I’m assuming this might, perhaps be a reason why I was unsuccessful this year for NSFAS.
When NSFAS approves you for funding, they include the year you first registered at an institution and not from the first year you started receiving funding from them. Since you started in 2012 and NSFAS can fund you for a total of 5 years, it seems that you have exceeded the years which you qualify for the funding. that’s why they said you’ve exceeded the N+ rule.
With the documents, I suggest you read this What Documents Do You Need For NSFAS Appeal 2022?
Innocent have you managed to appeal?
I just can’t login into my Nsfas account.
If you’re getting wrong login credential notification, then you can try to reset your password
I haven’t yet, I’m still waiting for a letter from my Institution indicating that I will complete my qualification within this academic year, which is required by nsfas. However, the is an appeal option on the NSFAS Portal. Sorry I had to take this long to respond, as I was unwell.
Alright
I was rejected and did an appeal then NSFAs sent me an SMS which state that I should sign a declaration form and upload it, few days after I have uploaded a declaration form I updated my email account and found email specifying that the declaration form should be sign by me and a social worker. I did go to social worker right now I am unable to send this declaration form, there is no option to upload another form. What should I do?
We suggest you call NSFAS for assistance with any of these NSFAS Contact Details or go to the nearest NSFAS Offices And Application Centers – Full List for a one on one assistance.
Also, you can go to the Financial Aid Office of your institution for assistance.
Hi I was studying at university of Johannesburg from 2012 for a bachelor of degree for 3 years as I was studying I was having financial problems, my mother was paying for me as she was working then it happens I added some 2 years so that my mother can afford as we were starting having financial problems and then I failed one module twice. as I was about doing my last year 2016 in we couldn’t afford to to pay the previous years tuition fees and I couldn’t register to finish my degree. I tried nsfas for couple of years eventually it approved in 2017 for me to finish my degree but I couldn’t register because the degree I was doing was face out and I was told to do my degree again so I had to apply again in 2017 for 2018 then I was told i don’t meet the requirements and I went back at the campus to know why I was told they will never going to allow me to do my degree again. That’s when I applied at university of South Africa in 2018 for 2019 I was my application was rejected and I kept applying until I was told my English matric results a low for the qualification I was to do it’s neither I take diploma in economics or I go back and rewrite my English so I went back and did my English last year 2021 as I’m accepted today by unisa but now nsfas says my application is unsuccessful because of n+2 what does that mean and I ever get funded by nsfas
When NSFAS is applying the N+ rules, they count your years from the first year you registered at an institution, in your situation 2012. This means you were expected to complete your 3 years degree in 2014. Since you couldn’t, even if you were to be funded based on the N+2 rule, you should have completed in 2016 since NSFAS funds students for a maximum of 5 years which means, you have exceeded the years that you qualify for funding. However, you can appeal and hope for the best.
I was funded by nsfas from 2020 to 2021 at a TVET College and now I have completed my studies. I then registered at an university in 2022 and nsfas rejected me by reason of household income greater the R350000 whereby it’s less the R350000 because my mother doesn’t work anymore and my household now depend on my father, when applying for nsfas I only send my fathers proof of income. What should I do
Write an appeal to NSFAS.
My son applied for Becheor of commerce in Acounting for 2022. Completed his matric in 2021. He received a letter from the university, say his on waiting list due to space constraints. My question is will his funding application be considered when he chooses another course or Diploma at the University and does he need to appeal for funding?
As long as the course he chooses to read is under the NSFAS funded courses. Also, if his previous application was not approved, he needs to appeal since the application is closed and NSFAS is now receiving only appeals.
I am a returning student and i am trying to go through with the appeal process of logging into myNsfas account and do it, but i am experiencing a problem of logging in. Everytime i try logging-in i receive a message that,”the profile is not recognized, do i wish to register a new profile”. I’m puzzled by this as how would i continue to do an appeal while i fail to login.
Please advise as how i can i address this matter.
Try to reset your password by clicking the Forgot Password tab.
Yes I did try to reset my password. When I try to reset my password, my ID number is required, after inserting it and submitting, I receive the message ” profile type does not exist for I.D Number. Do you wish to register a new profile?”….So after this message I get confused because if I am to register a new account, I would be starting afresh whilst been using Nsfas for the past 3 years.
We sugge6 you seek assistance from the nearest nsfas office or from the financial aid office of your institution.
We are a family of 8 and we all depend on my father’s salary which is a nett salary of R15160 per month after deductions which makes it R181920 p.a not R350000 p.a
He feeds us all and takes care of the house expenses, my mother is unemployed
I got rejected by nsfas reason being my Father is earning R350000 p.a which is not true. I tried appealing and couldn’t find the best option on the options given to submit an appeal should I be worried?
Try to choose the best option that may be similar to your reason of appeal. Then state your reasons of appeal and upload supporting documents to back and prove your claim.
My situation is the same as Locracia’s but when I choose an option saying cost of education is restricted to one parent it says I must submit a divorce decree of which my parents are not divorced so what do I do
This is very complicated if they’re are not divorce yet. If it’s possible, upload the payslip of the parent taking care of you
I forgot my password ,I need to sign in to my account .When I press where it says “forgot password” it say we are experiencing high volume …….. So what must I do because I can’t register at school need to appeal . I starting 2018 to study so I think n+2 rule affected me and I only left with three modules.
Keep trying, you may be able to log into your account.
Im a varsity student i was funded by Nsfas at the beggining of my first year which is last year then later around June Fundza lushaka did accepted to fund me and fundza took it from there funding whole year so this year i re-applied for Nsfas for 2022 academics so my question is will nsfas take me again though i passed 70% of my modules??
You can get funded as long as you passed 50% of your modules.
When appealing for NSFAS n+rule rejection, and the reasons options stated there are all not applicable to you, what do you do for you to send through your appeal? And what letter from the institution do you have to submit showing that you will complete within the +1 year?
It is very unfortunate for this situation. First of all, NSFAS is trying to prevent those affected by the N+ rules from appealing. And if your reason of appeal is not stated in the reasons of appeal option, it’s will be very difficult to suggest an option.
Again, there is no way you can prove to NSFAS that you’ll definitely complete with the said year unless you meet your academic performance requirement of passing at least 50% of your modules.
Hey, I’m also in the similar situation right now so I’d like to know from you did you manage to appeal somehow in the end?
which documents do i need to submit when i appeal ?
i did not meet academic requirements , i have failed more than 50% of my modules
The documents will depend on the reasons will raise in your appeal. For example, if you failed the 50% based on health reasons, it will be better you attach at least a doctor’s report to your letter to get facts to back your claim.
For other documents, you should check from here What Documents Do You Need For NSFAS Appeal 2022?
Morning my sister started doing higher certificate at Unisa on 2019 and 2021 was the final year. So now she applied for nsfas and the reason why she rejected is because of N+rule.. On 2009 she was studying at Richtek campus Nd she was funded.
I’m a College Student & in 2021 i didn’t finish my course due to medical illness. I was advised to reapply for NSFAS & did exactly that. I recently registered at College with my 2020 results as i don’t have 2021 results. My returning student status says unsuccessful due to not meeting academic requirement however the re-application is still in progress but I’m unable to see which step I’m on as the ticks has disappeared.
Is it advisable that I appeal.
It’s better to appeal if that’s the best option right now than to wait to do reapplication if you’re facing problems to do it. Act before it’s too late.
In 2009 i was funded by nsfas while i was in DUT up until 2012 then in 2017 i registered in unisa but i was self paying student until 2020 where i got funded by nsfas. so between 2017 and 2020 there’s some years where i was not enrolling, but in 2022 when i check my application status it say n+2 exceeded. so my question is, if I appeal will NSFAS continue to fund me 2022?
What are the required document should I attached?
When NSSFAS is applying the N+ Rules, they consider the first year you registered in an institution and not the first year which you started getting funding. Unfortunately, the maximum number of years NSFAS can fund a student is 5 years. Since you first registered in 2009, you have exceeded your qualified years for funding. However, you can appeal and try because NSFAS has made changes in their system and some students are getting the opportunity to get funded when they don’t qualify.
Good day.
I started my degree in 2018 and have 2 modules left to complete in this year to get my degree but my funding has been declined as it said I exceeded the N+2 rule whereas I haven’t as my degree is 3 years, what supporting documents do I need when appealing
You can add copies of your admission and first year of your registration records when appealing to NSFAS. These document can prove that you qualify for 1 more year for NSFAS funding since the maximum number of years NSFAS funds students is 5 years. Most importantly, you should add all supporting documents that NSFAS may ask.
Is nsfas using the N+1 or N+2 rule for students who registered in 2018
Nsfas use the n+2 rule for students who registered from 2018 onwards.
I was rejected for this year funding but I’m withing the N+2 sir and I registered in 2018
Then you have to appeal to NSFAS.
Must i state that nsfas made an error in the motivational letter, could you provide me with some tips on how to approach the situation as I really need the funding
Don’t ever try to argue or challenge NSFAS. That is why it’s an appeal. Just state your reasons and if possible, attach supporting documents to support your appeal.
Can NSFAS reject your appeal if you don’t have strong supportive documents, but strong motivation massage to empathy on your behalf?.
Not all appeals need a “strong” supporting documents. What’s important is to curate your letter to call for empathy on your behalf to convince nsfas to fund you.
I got rejected because they say in my house hold the is a salary that is above R350 000 per anum.Yes my mother works under government but she takes care of the household things like bond, rates, grocery etc and now that me and my sister has been admitted in college she fails to pay for my fees.Is it possible for me to appeal?
You need to meet all the requirements in order to get funded. However, you should try to appeal. But you’ll need strong words to call for empathy on your behalf for consideration.
I was affected by the N+2 rule, then I appealed it & it got approved. I was funded for 2021. Can Nsfas fund me for 2022. As I passed all my modules & left with only 3 modules to complete.
NSFAS will continue to fund you if you meet the requirement. Also, the maximum number of years NSFAS funds students is 5 years and if they applied the N+2 for you in 2021, it means you needed additional two years of funding including 2022 to complete your qualification.
Is it true that students affected by the n+2 rule will not be allowed to appeal?
NSFAS has not officially come out with such a statement yet.
Good day ,I’m a returning student and my nsfas application status is unsuccessful reason being the “n+2” rule ,but I started university in 2018 and this is my 5th year ,therefore I believe I haven’t exceeded the n+2 rule. Can I appeal to get funded for 1 more year as I’ve registered for my remaining modules and will be completing my degree this year. Nsfas said students affected by the n+2 rule will not be allowed to appeal ,is this true? Thanks.
Yes, you should appeal.
Is it possible for NSFAS to reject your appeal letter? And how long does it take for NSFAS to approve you after writing an appeal letter?
Yes, NSFAS can reject your appeal letter. For detailed reasons, read Can NSFAS Reject Your Appeal?
Again, on how long does it take to approve your appeal letter, you should check from here How Long Does NSFAS Take To Respond To Appeal?
Will Nsfas fund me if I fall under the N+2 rule?
I was doing a different course for three years changed courses this is my third year in the new course and I’m doing extremely well.
NSFAS will continue to fund you as long as you pass 50% of your modules.
My application was rejected reason being “student already graduated” but I do not understand because I was admitted at school
If this your first year applying for NSFAS, then it’s obvious that is a system error. Again, if you’re a returning student but have not exceeded 5 years of funding, it’s also a system error. So appeal to nsfas and give reasons why you have not graduated with supporting documents to proof your claim. NSFAS thinks you’ve exceeded your funding limit.
I was doing 10 modules n passed 2 because I was absent from my exams they stole my laptop just when I was about to write exams. This year I registered 3 modules with my money,if I pass them and write a letter of appeal will Nsfas approve?
You only have to give good reasons in your appeal. NSFAS will approve an appeal if they think your reasons are convincing enough to get funding. So yes, you can get approved for funding if you appeal.
NSFAS paid study fees for my higher certificate which i completed previous semester, i have reapply for NSFAS this semester and I submitted all the supporting document but my application was rejected they told me that the reason being supporting documents missing. now I do not have any option on myNSFAS portal to convey the Query.
Firstly, you can contact your institution’s Financial Aid Office for them to lodge your complaints. Or you can email NSFAS at info@nsfas.org.za.
Again, NSFAS will open for appeal application soon and you can wait to appeal if the other options do not work out.
My son failed more than 50% of his subjects. What do I do to get NSFAS to fund him again. I have no money to let him go to college again.
You will have to write NSFAS appeal motivational letter. To be successful to get approval, you’ll have to give reasons why he couldn’t pass the 50% academic performance requirements. For example, on health grounds, etc. Again, NSFAS will evaluate your letter if it contains strong reason(s) to consider restoring his funding. So, word your letter to create empathy on your behalf.
I registered at a varsity but took a gap year, while I didn’t cancel my registration. Will nsfas still fund me?
You lose your funding when you take a gap year. You’ll need to reapply in order to get funded by NSFAS.
My course takes 3 yrs.I passed all of my modules and failed one module.Meaning I left with one module.I failed this one module 4 times in 4 yrs.So I’m in third extra year doing this module will NSFAS fund me this year 2022?
If you need an extra one (1) year to finish your modules, NSFAS will fund you. In your case, you’ll fall under the N+1 Rule. I recommend you take a look at the rule for detailed understanding from her NSFAS N+1 Rule – Fully Explained (2022)
